CASETRUST-RCMA JOINT ACCREDITATION FOR RENOVATION BUSINESS

 

A Memorandum of Understanding was made in August 2014 with the Singapore Renovation Contractors and Material Suppliers Association (RCMA), which enabled creation of the CASETRUST-RCMA Joint Accreditation scheme for renovation businesses. Only RCMA listed businesses are eligible to obtain it.

 

This scheme requires an accredited business to protect a customer’s deposit payment through purchase of a deposit performance bond. This bond will safeguard deposits against closure, winding up and/or liquidation.

 

A CaseTrust Standard Renovation Contract will also be adopted by businesses to ensure cost transparency and accountability for listed deliverables in a renovation project in efforts to meet the demands of a modern discerning consumer.

 

Businesses who qualify to obtain this accreditation will be able to display a CaseTrust-RCMA logo on their shop fronts and marketing materials as an outward sign of their commitment to fair trading.

 

CONSUMER'S FRIENDLY PRACTICE FROM ACCREDITED RENOVATION BUSINESS

 

Non-RCMA businesses may still obtain accreditation under the CaseTrust for Renovation Business scheme.

 

As home renovation is one of the big investments that many Singaporean consumers will make, it is understandable that they would want to look for a renovation company that is able to meet their renovation needs, and have the peace of mind that the company is able to deliver what has been promised.

The CaseTrust Accreditation for Renovation Businesses, which has been in place since 2004, is an accreditation scheme that highlights renovation businesses that are committed toward maintaining a high level of good business practices. By obtaining the CaseTrust accreditation, these companies are visibly showing that they strive to put their consumers first and ensure to that their consumers get what they have paid for.

 

CaseTrust is currently reviewing the CaseTrust for Renovation Businesses scheme, and we are sorry for not being able to accept any new application for this scheme for the time being. More details on the updated scheme would be available soon, and please visit our website again for updates.

WHAT CAN CONSUMERS EXPECT FROM A CASETRUST-ACCREDITED RENOVATION BUSINESS?

 

A renovation business that achieves the CaseTrust accreditation is certified as a business that possesses the foundation for good sales practices and standards. The business will have the following mechanisms in place:

 
 

CLEAR FEE POLICIES

 

Clearly articulated and documented policies on fees and fee refund. These must be fully disclosed to their customers

 
 

WELL-DEFINED BUSINESS PRACTICES AND SYSTEMS

 

A redress system with proper and clearly defined dispute resolution mechanisms for the business and consumers. This will include mediation by the CASE Mediation Centre

 
 

WELL-TRAINED PERSONNEL

 

The business with trained sales staff who do not practice unethical sales tactics and are able to provide accurate information regarding the renovation

 

In addition to the above checks, CaseTrust Accredited Renovation Businesses regularly go through a workmanship site assessment by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore.
